The Environmental Health Network of California
Files Petition With the FDA

RE: Docket Number: 99P-1340/CP 1
Petition FDA to declare Calvin Klein's Eternity eau de parfum"misbranded"

To Whom It May Concern:

I support the petition regarding a need for a hazard warning on "eau de perfume." Many of the vapors from various perfumes, colognes, hair sprays, home fragrance sprays and body lotions induce respiratory reactions, nasal congestion, headaches and loss of sensorium.

Unfortunately, I suffer from asthma and hypersensitivity to these substances as well. Public places, especially department stores that spray customers are off limits to me. In particular, gardenia odors and Calvin Klein's Eternity induce the quickest and severest reactions. Having a busy medical office, I must post signs to prevent exposure.

I believe more research is needed to test the toxicity of the additives and compounds that make up our every-day products. Again, I support warning labels on substances shown to have sensory irritation and cause neurogenic inflammation.

Sincerely,

Dr. Fiorillo
