Files Petition With the FDA
To: Butler, Jennie C Dear Sir or Madam: I am writing in support of DOCKET #99P-1340/CP1, the petition to have Eternity eau de parfum declared misbranded. This product does not carry a warning statement as required (21CFR740.10). This clearly states that, where safety has not been adequately substantiated in a cosmetic product, a warning statement is required; otherwise, it is misbranded. The analysis of the ingredients in this product clearly demonstrate that safety has not been substantiated, and that many ingredients are indeed quite harmful. These products contain volatile ingredients and are designed for maximum effect, which can be quite debilitating in a room where several people are trying to make their individual scents "speak" louder than the others'. Currently, these consumers have no way of knowing that they are being exposed to substances that are harmful to their health. Consumers have a right to be informed of carcinogenic and neurotoxic chemicals, reproductive toxins, respiratory irritants, and sensitizing agents added to these products so that they can make informed choices. This product is clearly a health hazard, and I urge you to declare it misbranded. Perhaps if consumers were informed about these products, we could all breathe a little easier. I am living in Germany but American cosmetic products come also to Germany and we have the same problems than American citizens . Sincerely,
Ingrid Scherrmann
